The International Charter for Walking is a common policy reference that cities, organisations, neighbourhood groups and individuals can sign up to and encourage more everyday walking and greater walkability in communities.

- Well designed and managed spaces and places for people
- Improved integration of networks
- Supportive land-use and spatial planning
- Reduced road danger
- Less crime and fear of crime
- More supportive authorities
